A nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM) is here proposed as a good candidate for amplification of dark solitons in fiber‐optic communication systems. Simulations show the restoration of the dark‐soliton contrast ratio using the proposed technique. The same proposed scheme can also be useful in bright‐soliton‐based systems. ©1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
