The available literature indicates that anorexia nervosa is rare in Arab culture. We report 5 cases of anorexia nervosa: 3 female and 2 male patients. Two are UAE nationals, 2 are Omanis, and 1 is Sudanese. The occurrence of these cases is discussed in the context of sociocultural changes and the increasing westernization of the UAE society. © 1998 by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
