A resin with a high refractive index and a high Abbe number can be produced by radical polymerization of a polymerizable monomer mixture composed of essentially sulfur‐containing aromatic methacrylates. An optical material composed of said resin is provided especially for lenses. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 76: 50–54, 2000
