Abstract A cationic polymer of n ‐butyl methacrylate was prepared in an emulsifier‐free system. Using, as a base, a 30% solid content, the variables studied were the monomer and initiator concentrations, the agitation, and the temperature. The molecular weight, the zeta potential, and the particle size were determined. The results are compared with earlier work done on similar systems. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
