The microwave radiation copolymerization of maleic anhydride and dibenzyl maleate was studied in the solid state at 45°C. The composition of the monomer ratio on conversion and intrinsic viscosity and the amount of initiator on intrinsic viscosity were discussed. The copolymer can be used as a suspending agent synthesizing superabsorbent oil resin. 1997 © John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 66: 129–133, 1997
