The effect of changing the solvent surface concentration on the initial rate of solvent removal from solvent‐coated polymer films is investigated. An analytical perturbation so‐lution is developed for the nonlinear problem, and predictions are made for different surface concentrations and different diffusivity–concentration dependencies. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
