Values of the parameters of the modified Bethe–Bloch theory have been ascertained for kapton by analyzing recent measurements of stopping powers for 0.56–1.54‐MeV protons and 1.08–3.19‐MeV alpha particles. The resulting recommended values of the target parameters are 80.1 eV for mean excitation energy and 1.64 for the Barkas‐effect parameter and 1.86 for a single effective‐charge parameter assigned to the kapton‐alpha particle target–projectile combination. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
