The chiral macrocyclic complexes obtained in a templatecondensation of ( R , R )‐1,2‐diaminocyclohexane and2,6‐diformylpyridine, [LnL](NO 3 ) 3 , Ln=La(III),Ce(III), Eu(III) and Yb(III), werestudied by 1 Hand 13 C NMR spectroscopy. Thesignal assignment was based on COSY, NOESY and HMQC measurements andthe isotropic shifts of the paramagnetic complexes were analysed. Thespectra of the investigated compounds in methanol–chloroformsolution indicate a D 2 ‐symmetrical, helicalconformation of the ligand. The chiral [LnL](NO 3 ) 3 complexes are able to form diastereoisomericadducts with D ‐ and L ‐aminoacids thatcan be distinguished by 1 H NMR spectroscopy. Copyright© 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
