The complete assignments of the 13 C NMR resonances of N ‐(alkanoyl)‐ and N ‐(3‐oxoalkanoyl)‐ S ‐homoserine lactone are reported. These assignments were made by comparison with values for N ‐butanoyl‐ S ‐homoserine lactone, a model compound whose structure was comprehensively established by a combination of one‐dimensional proton and carbon spectra and two‐dimensional COSY, NOESY, HSQC and HMBC experiments.
