In contrast to carbonyl compounds, the 17 O chemical shifts of aryl sulfoxides are deshielded by electron donor substituents and show only slight sensitivity. In a thiirene‐1‐oxide the effect of interaction between the C=C and S—O groups is also small. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
