As a consequence of aggregate formation, no 1 H NMR spectra of the amphiphilic antibiotic moenomycin A have been obtained previously. It was now found that the system moenomycin A–D 2 O–C 6 D 6 after sonification yielded highly resolved 1 H NMR spectra, probably due to the formation of a microemulsion. Similarly resolved spectra were obtained from moenomycin A in sodium dodecyl sulphate micelles.
