Polarized Raman spectra measured on single crystals of Bi 2 (MoO 4 ) 3 are presented for thefirst time. An assignment of the observed peaks is performed on thebasis of calculated vibrational modes of a representative clustercomposed of three MoO 4 and two BiO 8 . Theanalysis of the Raman spectra shows that in Bi 2 (MoO 4 ) 3 the long‐range electrostatic andthe BiOMo bond bending interactions contributesubstantially to the potential and the internal polyhedral modes arestrongly influenced by the environment of the oxygen atoms.
