On the assumption that the stretching exponent value in the stretched exponential model is the same for both ν 1 (Σ + ) and ν 3 (Σ + ) vibrations of SCN ‐ , an ‘additional’ broadening of the ν 1 line has been identified and attributed to dissipative losses due to ion–dipole interactions between cations and anions in melt. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
