Infrared and Raman spectra of solid dibromodichloromethane at temperatures between 12 K and the melting point are reported. All nine internal modes are observed with both techniques. Multiple components of some modes are attributed to isotopic species. The absence of crystal field splittings and of lattice spectra with strong, sharp peaks at low temperatures is compatible with a crystal which has locked‐in orientational disorder, as suggested by recent heat capacity measurements. © 1997 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
