The chemical effect on Kβ 2 /Kα x‐ray intensity ratios for Mo and Tc compounds was calculated with the discrete‐variational Xα molecular orbital method. The calculated results are in qualitative agreement with the experimental values following radioactive decay of Tc isotopes. © 1997 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
