The effects of non‐Newtonian lubricants on the dynamics of a 3D journal bearing are investigated using a moving spectral element method. Comparisons are made with the findings reported for the 2D case. The variation of L/D , the ratio of the length of the bearing to its diameter, is shown to have a significant effect on the stability properties of the journal.
