Fine‐needle aspirates from a sclerosing mucoepidermoid thyroid carcinoma with eosinophilia showed peculiar but nonspecific features. The overall picture seems more important than individual elements in recognizing this rare entity cytologically, since the predominant type of malignant cells has a deceptively bland appearance. The differential diagnoses include other primary thyroid malignancies, as well as metastatic growth and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Diagn Cytopathol 1996;15:301–305. © 1996 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.
