In this preliminary study linear and branched oligosaccharides, derivatized with 2‐aminoacridone, have been separated by reverse‐phase high‐performance liquid chromatography, and detected by positive‐ion electrospray mass spectrometry. Tandem Mass spectra of the protonated carbohydrate analytes gave simple fragmentation patterns from which sequence information could be readily obtained. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
