The p ‐formylbenzyloxy anion, on collisional activation, undergoes the following cross‐ring hydride induced nucleophilic substitution reaction: p OHC‐C 6 H 4 ‐CH 2 O − →[( p ‐OHC‐C 6 H 4 ‐CHO)H − ]→ − OH 2 C‐C 6 H 4 ‐ p ‐CHO. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
