The fast‐atom bombardment (FAB) mass spectrometric behaviour of some platinum (II) and platinum (I) dinuclear hydrides has been studied by means of metastable ion studies. For all the examined compounds, the loss of the moieties bridging the two platinum centres is always observed, leading to structurally different product ions. Especially in the case of platinum (II) dinuclear hydrides, FAB mass spectra particularly rich in species in the range m/z 300–700 are obtained, generated by decomposition and rearrangement reactions.
