Clinicians and scientists from Europe and the U. S. recently met to discuss new data regarding relevant markers for prostate carcinoma. These markers are of particular interest because of their potential to improve the diagnosis of early prostate carcinoma and their ability to aid in the prognostic evaluation of all stages of disease. Neuroendocrine cell markers, free prostate specific antigen (PSA), complex PSA (hK2), and prostate specific membrane antigen were evaluated. The results raise significant questions for current and future research.
