Human tumors grown as xenografts in athymic nude mice are important tools for the study of tumor biology and experimental therapy. However, data presented by Pathak et al. indicate that a significant number of the xenografts they examined were not of human origin. Utilization of methods to confirm the human origin of xenografts in athymic mice is highly recommended. See also pages 1891‐3.
