An increased understanding of the mechanism of action of steroid hormonal agents has transformed clinicians' ability to identify hormone‐sensitive breast carcinoma. Furthermore, a new generation of hormonal agents has replaced the major surgical ablative procedures and the original additive hormonal agents used in the past.
