Polymerization of a methyl methacrylate micro‐emulsionstabilized with a specially designed emulsifier was studied usingpotassium persulphate as initiator. The growth of polymer particlesduring the entire polymerization was detected withphoton‐correlation spectroscopy. It was found that the particlesize continuously decreased with conversion, and that new polymerparticles were still formed at very high conversion. Thepolymerization kinetics was also studied and is discussed on the basisof the polymerization mechanism. © 1998 Society of ChemicalIndustry
