Surveys rank as a popular tool that colleges and universities use for gathering students’ feedback about their experiences. Online surveys have become particularly popular because they are relatively inexpensive to administer to large groups of students, use established procedures for assessing validity and reliability, and create actionable insights that can be shared in an accessible format. Although qualitative data can provide nuance and depth, surveys serve as a staple of understanding students and shaping the campus experience.
