An unprecedented acid‐promoted structural reorganization of pull–pull alkylidenecyclobutanes into three‐substituted γ‐butyrolactones, in moderate‐to‐high yields, via a ring closure‐ring contraction followed by intramolecular ring‐opening cyclization is described.
