Abstract A simple and straightforward method has been developed for the direct synthesis of unsymmetrical Z‐azo‐aryl compounds from p‐quinone methide ( p ‐QM) and arylhydrazine. This reaction strategy is executed in air under basic conditions and affords exclusively Z‐isomers in good yields with a broad substrate scope. The stereochemistry of our synthesized azo‐arenes has been confirmed by 2D‐NMR analyses.
