Partitioning of protein specimens to the air–water interface (AWI) poses an acute problem in electron cryo‐microscopy (ECM), causing a loss of biological function, subunit dissociation, protein denaturation and aggregation at the AWI with an insufficient number of visible molecular orientations. The outstanding method of ECM sampling–nanosecond hyperquenching (NHQ) solves this problem, yielding vitrified nanofilms without AWI‐bound protein. The Research Article by U. H. Ermel, H.
