Alawites owe their existence continuing up to today to the presence of the ocak culture. The ocak system was very influential in the Alawite’s preserving their systematic structure up to the present by eluding the problems they went through and the religious groups they were affected from as a society, a religious group within the historical process and not being directly subject to assimilation. The ocak system has a religious, social and historical importance for the Alawite and Bektashi societies. The Alawite society survived up to the present by the courtesy of the extant ocak system which carried the names of babas, dedes, abdals and dervishes, who were very effective in the shaping of Alawism. In this article, we focus on the origins of the ocak culture in Alawism, its meaning and its institutionalization within the historical process. In addition, problems of ocaks today are briefly touched upon. We aimed at drawing attention to the problems faced by ocak culture and the possible threats it may face in the future. As a result, by considering the examining solutions to problems and needs of institutions and given the fact that the proposition is target solution of academic studies, we expressed that in this changing modern age, the ocak culture and the institution of dedelik should be re-examinated from scientific, legal, religious and social perspectives. So that, we expressed a number of proposed solutions.
