Plant names have a considerably rich place in vocabulary of Kazakh Turkish. However, no research has been performed regarding this subject and it is a lack of onomatology. This study is prepared for the purpose of both revealing this richness of vocabulary in onomatology field and removing this lack. Resource work of study is annotative dictionary named Ösimdik Atavlarının Tüsindirme Sözdigi prepared in 2012 by B. Kaliyev. The writer of this dictionary states that he has made a compilation upon plant names and examined a lot of resources by traveling different regions of Kazakhstan in person throughout his life. From this perspective, this work includes plant names not only in written language, but also in dialects and accents. In this context, it can be reached with this prepared study to plant names in dialects and accents of Kazakh dialect. Abovementioned work is utilized during creation of the study. It is determined the plant names created with reference to names related to organs and body parts in that work and the obtained vocabulary is uncovered and examined. Words are classified which are referred in plant names by considering the classification and as a result of the examination it is observed regarding in which ways plant names are created in Kazakh Turkish. Similarities and differences between Kazakh Turkish and Turkey Turkish caught the attention in creation of plant names. Even if they live in different geographies, it is proven one more time that these two societies have a common language system and common culture; it can be seen that there is a common naming system between Kazakh Turks and Turkey Turks. Revealing the vocabulary of plant names will provide contribution to the studies performed in the field of Linguistics. STRUCTURED ABSTRACT Plant in Kazakh Turkish is met by the word of ösimdik. When plant names of Kazakh Turkish are examined, it is seen that plant denominations are sometimes an organ name, an animal name, a color name, a number name, a good or object name, or a name characterizing the human. With reference to this point, in this study, it is discussed the plant denominations created by names related to organ and body parts. 458 plant denominations are detected which created with names related to organ and body parts in scanned work. Detected plant names are listed and ranged under names related to each organ or body part and their descriptions are made in means of Kazakh Turkish, Russian and Turkish dictionaries. In this study, Russian names of plants are added between parenthesis in cyrillic alphabet in terms of making the mentioned plants more understandable. In this study, not only human organ names but also animal organ names are discussed (aydar, jal, ḳanat, tumsıḳ, tuyaḳ etc.) In obtained plant denominations, 64 organ and body part names are mentioned. These are: alakan, arḳa, awız, ayaḳ, aydar, barmaḳ, bas, Kazak Türkçesinde Organ ve Vücut Bölümlerine İlişkin Adlarla Oluşturulan... 265 Turkish Studies International Periodical for the Languages, Literature and History of Turkish or Turkic Volume 11/15 Summer 2016 bawır, bet, bilek, büyir, büyrek, emşek, erin, işek, iyıḳ, iş, jal, jambas, jumır, jün, jürek, ḳabaḳ, kabırġa, ḳan, ḳanat, ḳarın, ḳas, ḳıl, ḳıltan, ḳıltıḳ, kindik, köt, köz, ḳulaḳ, ḳuyrıḳ, moyın, moynak, murın, murt, müyiz, öt, özek, saḳal, san, sawsaḳ, sırt, siñir, siyraḳ, süyek, şaş, şat, taban, talaḳ, tamaḳ, tañday, tırnaḳ, til, tis, tobıḳ, töbe, tumsıḳ, tuyaḳ, tük. It is seen that denominations are created by resorting to especially metaphor in Kazakh Turkish plant denominations. Plants are named by drawing an analogy in terms of factors such as animal, organ, object, human, nutritional materials, minerals, supernatural powers by looking for both their shapes and habitats. Plant denominations in Kazakh Turkish are created by compound of two words in general. For this reason, in this study, Turkish versions are given of words partaking near of organ name or body parts, and a classification study is made related to these words. For the purpose of understanding that denominations are created for what opinion and mentality, meanings of words used in plant names are shown in a section named Creation Types of Plant Denominations within study. Words passing in plant name are split into groups under sub-titles in this section. When examining Kazakh Turkish plant denominations, it can be seen that sometimes different names are used for a single plant. For example, denominations of ḳiyar, dübirayaḳ, bӓdiren, ӓgürşik, ögürşük, ögirşik are used in different region and dialects of Kazakhstan. Denominations of basıbaldı, ḳoybas, işiḳızıl, ḳiysıḳmurt, ḳalaysan, külӓsan are used for melon as per its color, type and species. When looking at these denominations, we can see that sometimes a sound change is made and sometimes a different word meets the same plant. It is seen that a single denomination is used for different plants in Kazakh Turkish. The plant of sar(ı) bas is a denomination meeting more than one plant (1. Yellow-headed herbaceous plant species grows in river and water edges and in marshes. 2. Erysimum cheiri. 3. Brassica juncea. 4. Yellow, small bloomy weedy species, sisymbrium officinale 5. Hypericum perforatum). While sometimes common/the same denominations (leucanthemum vulgare öküzgöz öküzgözü in Turkish / equisetum palustre atḳuyrıḳ atkuyruğu in Turkish) are used for a plant known in Turkey and Kazakhstan; sometimes the same plant is named by drawing an analogy for different animals. It is seen that because sometimes plant type treats the mentioned organ, it is given a name created by that organ when creating plant denominations. For example; it is known that the plant of büyrekşay is a plant good for all diseases about kidney. It is given this name because of this property. Some plant names are named according to their habitats. For example; özenkulak is a mushroom species sprouts in river edges. It is given a name with the word of özen which means river, because of growing in river edges. Likewise, mükḳulaḳ is used for a mushroom species sprouting in mossy places, aġaşḳulaḳ is used for mushroom sprouting as adhered to trees. 266 Dilek KAPLANKIRAN Turkish Studies International Periodical for the Languages, Literature and History of Turkish or Turkic Volume 11/15 Summer 2016 It is seen that numbers also take place when creating denominations. Denominations are created according to leaf number of plant (besḳulaḳ) or flower number (mıñbas). In Kazakh Turkish denominations take place as per the color of plant (aḳbas, boztük, ḳaraḳuyrıḳ, ḳızılḳuyrıḳ vb.). Some denominations are directly used for both a plant name and an organ name (jumır, jürek vb.). Some denominations are formed by verbs (ḳansiygek, küygenbas vb.). Denominations of some plants consist of likenings of one plant to another. For instance, the plant named “masaḳbas” has a top section which is shaped like that of ear of grain. Again, in case of “moyılbas” plant; its denomination refers to its fruit being similar to wild cherry. In Kazakh Turkish there are many plant names consisting of animal names. Almost all plant denominations which consist of animal name and plant name together; are denominated by likening. Sometimes the fruit of a plant, sometimes its leaves or flower are likened to an organ of an animal(arıstanawız, ḳoyanḳuyrıḳ, pilḳulaġı etc.). When we consider the plant names of Kazakh Turkish; it can be seen that just like Turkish almost every plant has more than one denominations. The study consists of synonyms used for the plants. Seven denominations from among those which are determined; are formed by a combination of two organ names. (büyrekbet, jalḳuyrıḳ, jünbas, ḳıltanḳuyrıḳ, müyizbas, ötḳulaḳ, tuyaḳḳulaḳ). As can be seen; in Kazakh Turkish the logic of denominations is the same as that of Turkish. It is obvious that the two societies live through a common language system and a shared culture despite the habitations being at different geographical locations. Accordingly the study thereof is significant also in regard to its proving that there is a shared culture and language structure between Kazakh Turks and Turkey Turks. The study on Plant Denominations Consisting Of Organs And Limbs In Kazakh Turkish will contribute to linguistics studies and become a source in this context.
