From past to present, social and residential units which named as cities, have a meaning beyond the places for telecommunicating each other. The city word is often used with the "medina" and "civilization" word or concept. City carriers of civilization, civilization in the city founder, is strengthening and shaping elements. Between the concepts of city and civilization formed unbreakable/organic a bond. These concepts are an integral part of each other and It has been expressed as “city is civilization”. Istanbul is the only city in the world which has the distinction to be established on two continents, Istanbul is also called as a civilization city because Istanbul has a long history and Istanbul is the founder, carrier and reflective of many civilizations. Besides the Geographical location and natural beauty of Istanbul, it has a unique silhouette with historical structure and architecture, With all these aspects and beauty, they inspired many artists and Istanbul has been the subject matter of numerous literary works. Many Istanbul poet/writer who has a place in the memory expressed their love for the city and try to describe the beauties of Istanbul, by classical folk and new Turkish literature. On Sezai Karakoc poems Istanbul has a wide place. Karakoc considers Istanbul as the capital of Islam civilisation, and he wrote the material and spiritual elements of Istanbul in the original way. This work is written for the master’s thesis “Sezai Karakoç’un Şiirlerinde Şehir ve Medeniyet”. Sezai Karakoc designated Istanbul as "Capital of Islamic Civilization" and "Capital of capitals" with the way he described the poet's poems focused on reflecting Istanbul's historical and spiritual direction. STRUCTURED ABSTRACT “The city" word is often used with the "medina" and "civilization" word or concept. City carriers of civilization, civilization in the city founder, is strengthening and shaping elements. The meaning of the "civil" is the belonging to the city. Nevertheless, by producing "civilizing" infinitive from the name "medina" which means "civilization" in arabic, it is used with the meaning of "living a city life". In Western languages “civilization” equivalent to “civilisation” in Latin also the concept of “city” which means “civilis” is derived from the word. All of this information shows that “the city” and “civilization” between the concepts of unbreakable/organic formed a bond. the "civilisation" word comes from latin word "civilis". Also, these two words are seen as the completing part of each other and it is expressed as "city, is civilization". Sezai Karakoç's Istanbul, described as capital of Islamic civilization, has been the subject of many works in different directions at different times and it still continuos to be that. For insteance, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, including the important city of work of the author entitled Five Cities, Alberto Manguel 's footsteps Five Cities movement Tanpınar this work is penned; In many works from past to present it has been the subject from different perspectives of Istanbul. If the poems of Sezai Karakoç on Istthe city and civilization, it is possible to see that they are sometimes clear and concise and sometimes seen as a form of symbolic emphasis in Istanbul's historical and spiritual direction. Karakoc, especially, in the eighth page of his poetry book " Alınyazısı Saati" , positioned Istanbul a different place from other cities and installed a metaphysical sense to it. Karakoc qualifies Istanbul as a warrior of truth civilisation which are against the world with the spirit of Islamic nation and disrupts their game; by his poems and by his post thoughts illustrates he how material and spiritual civilization intertwine in Istanbul. In the city and civilaziton poems of Karakoc, describes, Istanbul is the one of the most important city of Islamic civilization with mosques that are reflecting the architectural features of Islamic civilization. In the poem “Sürgün Ülkeden Başkentler Başkentine” he says that Istanbul is the capital of Islam civilization and that it is possible to find items bearing the traces in every district of this civilization, in the poem “Şehzadebaşı’nda Gün Doğmadan” we can see that Yunus Emre, Akşemseddin and Mimar Sinan is bringing together in Sehzadebasi Mosque who do great spiritual and material services for Islamic civilazation. Sezai Karakoç, tells the modern version of İstanbul with sense of longing to old version of İstanbul in his poem " İstanbul'un Hazan Gazeli".Karakoc react to the modernization and urbanization activities for Istanbul which was the capital and the cradle of many civilizations. According to him, these activities are carried out in Istanbul in a conscious way to pull off the character as the capital of their identity and capitals. By the poem “Ceşmeler” establishing Karakoc similarities between the old times fountains and old poets who have inscriptions on fountains” and sees that as representor of civilization which is located in the center of a society. Also, in his poem “Taha’nın kıtabı”, he draws the attention to historical cemetery which surround Istanbul and how that structure of city impacts. “Kız Kulesi’ne Gazel II” to describe the outward appearance of the Maiden's Tower which he identifies with Islam as a Muslim who lifted her index finger to air is a highly original approach.
