Family-owned companies and their ability or disability to institutionalize is one of the most important problem for the business world. The idea that the companies can overcome sustainability problem only by institutionalization has already begun and even some businesses have put into practice. Although there are differences between the founders and managers of the Family-owned companies in many fields, education being the most prominent one, there is not a big dissidence about institutionalization. Institutionalization of family business is the only effective way of growing and more precisely to continue their existence. Big companies have already carried out their institutionalization and it is also necessary for small companies or family-owned companies to put institutionalization into practice. In this study, it is investigated the situation of 325 family-owned companies’ institutionalization and their perspective of institutionalization that carry on a business in the TRB1 region. Research results showed that family members, notably young generation who run the business, internalized institutionalization and believed in its necessity. But institutionalization of family-owned companies needs time to becoming fact because of the traditional structure of family-owned companies. It is also seen that family-owned companies don’t frown on professional management but they also want to have power on business and management issues. Professional manager is mostly needed on financial and economic issues. According to results, it is also seen that in spite of having employees and experts’ opinion on the subject, strategic and final decision are taken by family.
