The study first, examines the intellectual backgrounds of westernization of the Ottomans during the Period of the Second Coristitutional Monarchy (1908-1918) and second, focuses on the criticism of “the religious sense” and “religious institutions” in the stories of this period. It is found that the religious life and the concept of religion were significantly degenerated in the stories contained “the misuse of religion” and “ fanaticism” except five stories that dealt with the topics of “sincere religious sense”. Those stories contained these kins of deformation in relation to devout and religious institutions would be main topics of Turkish stories and novels after the period of Republic.
