Reduplications applied in order to strengthen and enrich meaning, bring utterance into consonance, describe a concept in two words, are units formulated by repeating different words or words of which sounds are similar to each other, but different in meaning. As in literary language, each dialect has its own mentality, characteristics and identity, so these differences are the foremost factors distinguishing dialects from each other. “Reduplication”, “triplication” or “quadruplications” constructed with usages we call “local words” are often encountered in dialects. It is impossible to limit reduplications within specific word types and rules. Elazig and its neighbourhood also include some striking reduplications. In this study, the reduplication “çağaçolukdavardoluk” used in dialects of Elazig and its neighbourhood was emphasized. The meanings of the words within the reduplication were pointed out by making use of diverse sources. When focused on the form of its first unit, it can be claimed that the words constructing the reduplication are replaced as differently from literary language. Because, the reduplication is used as “çolukçocuk (çağa)” both in literary language and dialects. In this reduplication, the word “çağa” refers to “child, baby”, the word “çoluğ” refers to “household, family”. The word “davar” refers in dictionaries to 1.mutual name given to sheep and goat, 2.sheep and goat herds. As the reduplication “davardoluk” is the second unit in a “quadruplication”, the change in it will happen in accordance with the word “çoluk”. This utterance in the dialects of Elazigneighbourhood is a stereotyped expression used by people who do not see each other for a long time or are abroad, in order to get news from each other or another people.
