Alp Er Tonga is one of the heros, conducting Turkish cultural history. There are various oral narratives among Uighur Turks living in Eastern Turkistan about him, as well as written resources. In our essay, first of all, we will estimate the information regarding Alp Er Tonga in historical written resources and the opnions of the researchers regarding the identity of Alp Er Tonga. Then we will examine the oral narratives existing around his life and we will try to determine his position and importance in Turkish cultural history.
