The word çocuk means piglet in Divanu Lugati’tTurk. Later on, this word was also meant child in some Turkic languages, an example of meaning improvement. However the word written as cocuk preserved its original meaning in Turkmen. In Turkmen, when some words were uttered, it is easily understood that the word is about children by people who speak that language. In other words, when these words are used, children come to mind: bala “child”, çağa “child”, doğma “son”, perzent “generation, child” etc. On the other hand, some of aforementioned words describe the children indirectly.
