Sabahattin Eyuboğlu'nun Denemelerine Genel Bir Bakış

Essay which can be written nearly in any subject enables great opportunity to the writer in expressing personal opinions. In addition to this, other aspects which makes essay attractive are that it reposes on colloquial language and does not impose writer any obligation of testifying his thoughts. Despite all, essay does not have a long history in Turkish literature. As some of our writers have stated, in this case, it can be thought to result from the fact that critical thinking approach improved late in our country. Essay which is referred with the name of Montaigne in world literature begins to be seen with interviews in private newspapers of Tanzimat period in Turkish literature. Despite this late acquaintance, essay becomes a genre many writers of our literature demanded especially in Republic period. However, most of the essays observed within Turkish literature belong to people who are known as poet, novelist or narrator. There is limited number of writers who are known as “essayist” in our literature. One of these writers is Sabahattin Eyuboğlu. Eyuboğlu, one of the productive writers of out literature in essay genre, wrote essays in various subjects from literature to politics, painting to architecture. His essays about petry and art was used as analysis subject in different books in the sense of issues they discuss. Also, there are symposiums which have been organized about the author. In the Introduction section of study, basic principles of essay were determined. The development section is based on essays of Sabahatin Eyuboğlu. In this section essays of writer were analyzed in the sense of subject, process, style and mode. Prominent thoughts of writer in the fields of literature, culture, art and politics were mentioned. His colloquial language and style were exemplified. Positive and negative assessments were made about writer. In the conclusion section, qualifications which were determined about essays and essay writing approach of Eyüboğlu within the course of study were elaborated and it was emphasized that the writer is one of the important names of essay genre.
