Medresah where lessons were given, was the most importanteducational institution of Islamic World. These institutions had an important role for the Islamic civilisation to reach its peak point. Withthe begining of 19th century Medresah began to be regarded as thecause of recession of Islamic World against the Western Civilization andit started to be questioned. The Medresah instutions lost its popularitywith the establishment of western style educational institutions in theOttoman State after the declaration of Tanzimat. Various solutionproposals were put forth within the framework of developing movementsof thoughts in the late Ottoman Life. Against the westernized andsecularist intellectuals’ wing which was claiming that the Medresah haslost its function, Islamic intellectuals were in the opinion of makingreforms on the Medresah in order to carry it out to the standards of themodern education. Medresah institutions has also been effected by theby the deep progressive movements which mainly evolved around theidea of westernization at the Republican Turkey. Medresah institutionswere shut down by the legislation of “Tevhid-i Tedrisat” (unification ofeducation) which is announced at 11th March of 1924 by Vasıf Bey whowas the minister of education at the time. Islamist circles haveconcerned and been led to backlash developments after the closure ofMedresahs. Some of these developments were portion of the lecturersremain unemployed with the closure of Medresahs, worries about theimproper use of the property of Medresah by renting or sailing and alsoconcerning about the programs of the Vocational Religious HighSchools and Faculties of Theology founded immediately after closingMedresahs could not meet the expectations and therefore inert at thereligious education. In this study, we are going to examine theopposition of the Islamic circles and the negative improvements thatappeared by abolishment of Medresahs in the example of the“Sebilürreşad” magazine.    Ders verilen yer anlamına gelen medrese, İslam dünyasının en önemlieğitim-öğretim kurumlarından birisidir. Orta Çağ’da İslammedeniyetinin zirveye ulaşmasında büyük pay sahibi olan bu kurumlar,19. yüzyıldan itibaren İslam dünyasının, Batı karşısında gerilemesininsebebi olarak görülür ve tartışılmaya başlanır. Tanzimat’tan itibarenaçılan Batı tarzı eğitim kurumları karşısında sürekli güç kaybedenmedreselerin ıslahına yönelik, Osmanlı’nın son döneminde gelişendüşünce hareketleri çerçevesinde, farklı çözüm önerileri ortaya konulur.Medreselerin işlevini kaybettiklerini, dolayısıyla kapatılması gerektiğinidüşünen Batıcı aydınların sekülarist kanadına karşın, İslamcı aydınlarüzerinde yapılacak ıslah girişimleriyle bu kurumların çağın şartlarınauygun hale getirilebileceğini belirtirler. Cumhuriyet Türkiye’sinde Batıcıfikirler ekseninde gerçekleştirilen köklü yenilik hareketlerindenmedreseler de etkilenir. Bu kurumlar, Maarif Vekili Vasıf Bey’in Tevhid-iTedrisat Kanunu’na istinaden 11 Mart 1924’te yayınladığı bir genelgeylekapatılır. Medreseler kapatıldıktan sonraki gelişmeler, İslamcıçevrelerde endişe yaratır ve tepkiye yol açar. Bu gelişmelerin bazılarışunlardır; Lağvedilen medreselerde çalışan müderrislerin bir kısmınınişsiz kalması, medrese vakıflarının satılma ya da kiralama yoluylauygunsuz amaçlar için kullanılacağı endişesi, medreselerin yerinekurulan İmam-Hatip Mektepleri ve İlahiyat Fakültelerininmüfredatlarının beklentileri karşılayamaması dolayısıyla din eğitimininakim kalacağı düşüncesidir. Yapmış olduğumuz bu çalışma ilemedreselerin kaldırılması ve bundan mütevellid olumsuz gelişmelere,İslamcı akımın muhalefetini, Sebilürreşad dergisi örneğindeinceleyeceğiz
