A Passage From Mythos To Utopia In The Legends Of Migration And Ergenekon

The legends are historical mirrors that reflect the cultural life,national conscious and memory of a nation with a literary pleasure. Thelegends of Migration and Ergenekon that constitute the basis of Easternliterature are the products of experiences produced by society’s memoryto struggle against the West by the aim of examining the identity searchand causes of migration. These narrations in which centenaryexperiences are kept alive in oral tradition from one generation to theother are historical, mythological and cultural heritages lightening ourfuture by the past.The legends of migration and Ergenekon tell how a nation thatcannot hold on its history, cultural values, on its “sacred stone”,becomes homeless. Those legends are woven with many mythologicalsymbols that attach a nation to its past. The symbols in the legendssuch as tree, mountain, water, fire, iron, dream etc. are like a road mapby which we can examine the life story and historical data of Turkishnation. This road map can only become clear by clarifying the contentsof conscious and unconscious. Tree, mountain and water symbolswhich are the myths of birth and re-birth are eternal power sourcesfeeding the life energy of the legend. The cases of appearing ofmythological mother who exists from the beginning to the end of thelegend, are the symbols selected by the public memory to transmit thesensitivity of legend spirit to the reader. Those mythological elements,which lead the way for the hero by giving meaning to his sacredjourney, give a potential strength to the legend that is a stop-and-thinkplace.In this study, in the light of mythological symbols existing in thelegends of migration and Ergenekon, we will examine the search forculture and identity under the subtitles such as leaving thefather/mother land, the process of enlightment, turning back to thefather/mother land, and mythological rebirth.
