Bahsi geçen eserlerin ana hatlarıyla ideal insan, ideal toplum prensibi ekseninde, ağırlıklı olarak dini ve ahlâki içerikli bir kimlik ile karşımıza çıktığı ifade edilebilir ki bu türden eserlerden bir bölümünü de kıssalar oluşturur. Nîl Nehrinin kaynağına duyulan merak ve bu merakın giderilmesi adına başlatılan dini-fantastik içerikli maceralı yolculuğu anlatan “Hikâye-i Abdülmecid” adlı kıssa da bahsi geçen türün özelliklerini barındıran bir eser olmakla çalışmamızın genel çerçevesini oluşturmaktadır. Bilinmeyene duyulan merak ve bu merakın giderilmesi adına söylenenler veya icra edilenler, ister istemez etraflarında dini, sihri, mistik olağanüstülüklerin iç içe geçerek işlenmesi sonucunu doğurabilir. “Hikâye-i Abdülmecid” adlı eserde, Abdülmecid’in Nil Nehri’nin kaynağını arayışı, halkın Cennet, Cebrail gibi dini konulardaki algısını yansıtıyor olmanın yanında, Kevser, Nil, Zemzem gibi suların kaynak olarak kutsal bir kökene nasıl bağlanmış olduğuna da işaret etmektedir. Nil Nehri, Fırat Nehri gibi “Mübarek” sıfatı ile yüceltilmiş ve İslâm nehri olarak sayılmıştır. Bu sıfat, nehrin Mısır ve havalisindeki bütün zirai hayatın doğal olarak da insan hayatının can damarı olması münasebetiyle olabileceği gibi, nehrin kaynağının oldukça uzun bir süre tespit edilememesiyle de ilgili olsa gerektir ki Nîl Nehri’nin kaynağının gizeminin oldukça eski ve sık işlenmiş bir tema olduğunu da burada ifade etmek gerekecektir
