Some Observations In 18th Century About İstanbul Dialect

Istanbul dialect fundamentally constitutes the Empyreal language (Istanbul Turkish) which had been filtered through pronunciation styles of the Greek, Armenian and people from other nations and Turkish who came from different parts of Anatolia and settled after the time Mehmed II. conquered Istanbul. In this essay we are going to deal with the condition of Istanbul dialect in the 18th century, which is about to become extinct now. At the beginning of 20th century, some phonetic characteristics found in Istanbul dialecet will be compared with some data found in certain works written in the 18th century and similarities of some vocabulary and suffixes found in the standart language with the forms in Istanbul dialect will be presented.
