Women writers contributed much later to Chagatai literature although this started at about the same time with Anatolian and Azerbaijani literature together with which it together constitutes the three major fields of classical Turkish literature. Most probably the reasons for it were the socio cultural and geopolitical conditions. Nevertheless, particularly in Turkmenistan and Harezm women poets like Zebunnisa, Üveysi, Nadire, Mahzune, Nazime, Muazzam Han emerged. These women poets received such an education as to enable them to write not only in Jagatai but also in Persian and Tajiki. The most famous of these poets were Üveysi and Nadire.
