Children Image in the Reading Passages of Primary Turkish Course Books of 6th, 7th and 8th Classes

In this research, it is aimed to point out the children image described in the reading passages of Turkish course books of 6th, 7th and 8th classes. With this aim, three course books used in the term of 2010-2011 education year and three course books used in the term of 2011-2012 education year have been analyzed. It is found out that the concept of “children” is mentioned in 58 reading passages of totally 180 passages in those 6 course books. Through the concept of “children” used in contexts, we try to explain the children image. The research is critically important in terms of evaluating how well the children image created in those reading passages comply with current educational system and universal human mentality. To understand and point out the children image illustrated by education system will actually show us what an education is suggested by educational system.
