It is known that Iraqi Turkmens have a long historical background in their region and a rich literary legacy as well. However, as there have been many political and regional problems until today, this literary richness hasn’t been studied in detail or in a comprehensive way. Thus the literature of the Turkmens was only known artificially by other countries, even by neighborhood countries. Meanwhile this literature has evolved and different literary genres have emerged to be used. This change naturally has brought many discussions and criticisms. One of these newly born literary changes was about free verse use in poetry. This new usage caused many discussions among authors. The sides of the discussion mostly claimed that there were political, historical and social factors to be evaluated besides literary reasons. In this article it is aimed to reveal the course of these discussions.
