On Some Verbs Both Transitive and Intransitive in the Turkic Runic Inscriptions

In 1963, K. Lübimov systematized the concepts of transivity and intransivity by verifying that “the category of transivity/intransivity is lexical, but the voice is grammatical”. Zeynep Korkmaz shares the same opinion with Lübimov and says that “the features of transivity and intransivity of the verb stems are related to the lexical meanings of these verbs.” Hence the transivity and intransivity which comes up with the voice suffixes is in the case of grammatical category. The issue of this article is to emphasize some verbs both transitive and intransitive in the Turkic Runic inscriptions. It has not been offered a term for these verbs up to these point. The terms çift çatı and ikili çatı in Turkish are used for the verbs, derived from the voice suffixes. The verb stems both transitive and intransitive without semantic change in Turkic Runic inscriptions will be introduced and exemplified in this paper.
