The following article begins with a critical review of the proposal made by media sociology on journalistic routines and evaluates its validity for the study of journalistic routines in Chile. Through in-depth interviews with a group of Chilean editors, it investigates the routines used and to what extent they are affected by the change within the media and the new behavior of the audience. It is concluded that the proposed ideas of the media sociologists are still valid but they must be updated to the new issues faced by traditional media. The emergence of new scenarios for journalists needs rethinking these routines.
