International audienceAn overview is given on the microscopic study of the interacting boson model (IBM). A new fermion-boson mapping method has been proposed recently, that determines the Hamiltonian of the IBMbased on the nuclear mean-field model. The IBM Hamiltonian is shown to be derived for generalsituations of low-energy collective states of nuclei
