Background: Arthralgias, known in the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as Bi syndromes, affect dogs and cats particularly at the adult and old ages. Objective: To report the study and treatment, 8 dogs and 2 cats suffering of bone Bi Syndrome were treated with acupuncture. The patients had clinical signs such as pain and difficulty to move,; they were males and females at ages between 3 and 15 years old, ±9 years old, who were diagnosed with bone Bi syndrome by clinical and radiographic exams. Methods: Animals were treated in nine sessions of acupuncture, as follows: three sessions at intervals of seven days, three sessions with intervals of fifteen days and three sessions at intervals of thirty days. Systemic acupuncture needles of varying sizes according to the points chosen and their locations and depth were used. Needles were maintained for 10 to 20 minutes. All patients were treated with local points, in addition to classical analgesic and energetic points, based on the TCM diagnosis. Animals treated with acupuncture gained control of pain after the third session, and the improvement in movement was gradual and remarkable throughout the treatment. Conclusion: There was analgesic efficacy of acupuncture and joint mobility gain to march in the treatment of bone Bi syndrome, both in dogs and cats. The importance of considering history and traditional procedures of TCM were highlighted for the success of the treatment.
