This study aims to highlight the influence exerted by the thought of St. Augustine about the moral aspects of the rule of the Order of chivalry of Santiago, as well as to inquire about the historical circumstances that caused or allowed such influence. In addition to the three commandments which form the backbone of the rule –obedience, poverty and conjugal chastity–, we will analyze other aspects such as the legality of the war or the hospitality, both of great importance for explaining the origin of the order of Santiago and widely addressed by the Bishop of Hippo.
