Abstract: The presence of the Order of Preachers in the future Betica Province runs in parallel to the processes of conquest and repopulation of the territories by the Castilla Kingdom between the 13th and 15th Centuries. We analyse the processes of Convent foundation, the growth of its first schools, its links with monarchy, nobility and social groups in the different territories until the creation of the Betica Province. In addition to this, we study its adequacy to the challenge that the incorporation of the American territories into the Castilla Kingdom meant, and the need of pastoral work for the population in the new territories.
